MEET THE HOST
“Hi There! I am Rhys Carter or Queer Carter.
I am a Transmasculine man (he/they), a community builder, and the host of The Queer Carter Podcast.
I am so happy you are here!”
I grew up in, and currently live in, New Orleans, Louisiana. I came out in 2021 after 34 years of thinking I was cisgender. While I’ve been out as gay for almost 10 years, it took me by surprise when I realized I was Transgender in the middle of my thirties.
Since then I have changed my name and pronouns in many circles of my life, including my workplace, followed through with masculinizing top-surgery, and experienced the beauty and challenges of love in the middle of transition. Through all of this, I have laughed, cried, and experienced every stress and feeling under the sun. On the daily, I am mis-gendered, and struggle with seeing hopeful models of what a fulfilling life can look like as a Transgender American when so much harmful discourse surrounds the narrative, generating endless self-doubt. As a result, I have accepted, I can do none of this without Community. Connecting with others, telling our stories, it is absolutely necessary. This is where the Queer Carter Podcast comes in. If I am being honest it was born partially out of my own desire to connect with others and to feel inspired myself, but more importantly it is for you, my listeners. To give you a space to be you to no matter who you are. Again, I am so excited you are here! Please enjoy!
Rhys Carter’s Core Values
Below are the values I strive to live by as a community member, Trans person, content creator, thought contributor, and explorer of new ideas, new countries, and new communities!
Do Not Fear Failure. Embrace the Challenge. Live the Life You Imagined For Yourself.
I must admit I have not always been good at this one. But we’re doing something new on this show. When we strive to embrace the potential for failure but do it anyway, that is when the magic happens. To express, and role model, our truest and authentic selves is what we are called to. Society needs it. Society craves it. Give your full YOU to the world. All the messy, all the “I don’t know”, all the in-between, that is where LIFE is. It’s where the beauty lies. In the kaleidoscope of new identity, in the fluidity of gender, in the shifting and changing of life. Showing up is the first step. Are you ready?
Inspire. Help Others. Lift Up Voices That Need to Be Heard.
When we commit to building vibrant, active, and where possible, far-reaching circles of belonging or community, inspiring others as best we can, we create a positive pay it forward ripple affect across communities!
